I like the vinyl as a good choice in these cars. The manual seems not as well suited in a car like this. But then that’s my bias.

Black vinyl can be pretty painful in the summer of course.
In 65, the 2+ 2 came with the 421, bucket seats, etc and was meant to be a full sized muscle car - a pretty good percentage of those seem to be 4 speeds. This car is really just a Catalina dressed up as a 2+ 2 clone.
Prior to 65, most 421s were intended for racing and had manuals. But yeah, certainly in a convertible an automatic seems like a better fit.

Built, really, since it’s not actually a 2+ 2, but yeah I’d spec it just like how this car is now.

Interiors in the 60s were so beautiful.

They were. It was a couple of years after this that they started to go down hill, partly for safety reasons, partly just good old fashioned cost cutting.

maybe relevant to your interests, this thing has been hanging out on local CL:

Looks gorgeous in photos. It should have sold in 20 minutes at that price if it’s as advertised.
In fact, it’s almost fishy.
On a related note, why did Pontiac feel the need to offer both the Grand Prix and 2+2 for a few years?

Maybe has some hidden issue, although I can’t see anything in the pics. Or maybe there’s just not enough demand here. I’ve seen the car for at least a couple weeks.
I think Pontiac did that because they could - the USDM was effectively a captive market and US makers were perhaps also at their peak: at the height of middle class prosperity, if you built it, they’d buy it.

I just suspect the car isn’t quite what it’s represented. But if I was local I would ab solutely go have a look for myself - and make an offer if it was all metal and ran decently.
GM had 50% market share at the time - they could do whatever they wanted, really. And hell, the Starfire and Wildcat occupied the same space as the GP and 2+2 as well.

Rust is rare here, so unless the car is a transplant or sat outside for 40 years (doubtful with that interior), it should at least be solid. I think there’s some economic uncertainty out there that might be limiting such toys right now.
Sales numbers from those days are amazing. Those Starfires and Wildcats found plenty of buyers too. I remember looking at Ford numbers - over 200K Galaxie 2 door HTs were sold in 1966 alone. Just that one body style and model.
